Sierra Leone opposition candidate calls for resignation of election commission

Sierra Leone’s opposition presidential candidate, Samura Kamara, has asked the electoral commission to resign before the presidential election. President Julius Maada Bio of the ruling SLPP party is seeking a second term.

“The intention of the SLPP, its goal, its main goal, is not to hold free, fair, nonviolent and credible elections. So then, the APC will demand it.

Mr. Mohamed Konneh and all election commissioners resign immediately, and to be replace by an independent and internationally recognized group of electoral commissioners,” presidential candidate for founder Samura Kamara said in a press conference.

The country of about 8 million people will vote in presidential, legislative and local elections on June 24. Leader of APC Samura Kamara and opposition candidate is currently on trial for corruption. If convicted, he cannot run for office or hold office in the state.
