Demonstrators in Tunisia mark two years since the presidency grab power

More than 300 people gathered in Tunis on Tuesday to mark the two-year anniversary of Kais Saied passing overwhelming power by suspending Parliament.

Members of the opposition coalition, the Front for National Salvation, took to the streets to demand the release of some 20 party figures who are being held, as well as media and business figures accused of conspiring against state security.

“It was the culmination of a multi-faceted failure in every field, whether constitutional, legal, institutional, economic, social or human rights, and everything to do with the freedom, control and use of judicial power, and the management of records by political opponents.

In recent months, it (these incidents) has had a huge impact on the lives of people’s essentials, Dilou, and Salvation Front,” said Samir, vice president of the Dilou Front, and the Redemption Front. country explained.

Former ministers Lazhar Akremi and Chaima Issa were released earlier this month, but others remain in custody despite calls from various human rights groups, such as Ennahda party leader Rached Ghannouchi.

“it was party-unpolitical catastrophe identified by the appearance of political prisoners, party leaders and a parliamentary speaker in prison.

This is the state of the system and what it has brought us. Going back to the establishment of a system of fear through political arrests, as well as Circular 54 that restricts freedom of speech and also attacks freedom of the press.

This is what the July 25 regime has achieved in its two years in power,” said Imed Khemiri, a spokesman for Ennahdha, a member of the National Salvation Front.

The record of the past two years has much to look forward to.

Whiles parliament debated, the economy collapsed, leading to inflation, slowing growth, investors retreating and shortages of essential goods.
