The singer’s death was announced on Wednesday by her press officer. No cause has been given, but she has suffered from a number of health problems in recent years, including a stroke and kidney disease.

Born in Tennessee and raised in a church, Turner essentially made his way to rock ‘n’ roll and rose to fame in the 1960s.
When Ike Turner refused to let her audition, she waited for her performance to pause, grabbed a drummer’s microphone, and exclaimed. She preformed with the group for the rest of the night and suddenly reached the same rating as Ike – later marrying her co-star.
